Tussah Silk Yarn 70/8, 500 g cones
Tussah silk yarn has a beauty that feels a little more natural, earthy, and quietly luxurious than the high-shine silk many people picture when they think of silk.
Tussah has mulberry silk’s strength, fluidity, and elegance, but with a softer glow rather than a glassy sheen. It often has a slightly textured, organic character that gives cloth more depth and soul. Instead of looking overly polished, it feels refined, warm, and artisanal.
In the finished fabric, tussah silk can create cloth that drapes beautifully while still holding enough body to show off the structure of the weave. It is wonderful for pieces meant to feel both luxurious and alive in the hand—scarves, shawls, special garments, heirloom accessories, and elegant home textiles.
Many weavers are drawn to tussah because it has:
-
a rich, subtle luster
-
excellent strength on the loom
-
beautiful stitch and weave definition
-
an organic, slightly wild silk character
-
a hand that feels special without feeling flashy
Gorgeous Tussah Silk in luxurious 70/8 yarn for weaving, or whatever else your heart desires. Very similar in size and weight to 20/2 but much stronger because of the number of strands that are twisted together.
Cones are ~500 grams.
Works for both warp and weft.
Wet finish in cool water. Soak for 20 minutes. Don't agitate much. Finish with the silk/wool setting on your iron while the fabric is still damp. Air dry.
