Tussah Silk Yarn, 20/2
~50 gram Skein
100% Tussah Silk Yarn, Lace Weight 20/2
Tussah silk is a silk with personality. Spun from the cocoons of wild silkworms (Antheraea mylitta), it is loved for its soft glow, natural texture, and slightly more rustic character compared with the smoother, more polished look of mulberry silk. In 20/2 lace weight, tussah silk offers a beautiful combination of strength, drape, and visual depth that makes it especially appealing to both weavers and dyers.
For weavers, 20/2 tussah silk is a versatile yarn that can be used for both warp and weft. It has good strength for weaving, while its subtle texture gives cloth a lively, organic surface. The yarn produces fabric with graceful drape, a soft hand, and a gentle sheen that enhances structure without overpowering it. It is especially well suited to scarves, shawls, wraps, fine yardage, and textured or lace weaves, where its natural character adds richness and dimension to the finished cloth.
For dyers, tussah silk is a rewarding fiber to explore. As a protein fiber, it takes acid dyes and many natural dyes beautifully, often developing complex, nuanced color. Because tussah silk usually begins with a naturally warm, golden-beige tone rather than a bright white base, dyed colors can appear especially rich, earthy, and layered. That warmth makes it a favorite for dyers who appreciate depth, subtle variation, and a more natural palette.
Finished fabric woven from tussah silk feels supple, breathable, and elegant, with a beauty that is a little more understated and textural than mulberry silk. If you are drawn to fibers that feel luxurious but not overly polished, 20/2 tussah silk is a wonderful choice: refined, distinctive, and full of character.

I have a vat of indigo that is pretty much always ready to do. I decided to hold my breath and try a few skeins of this gorgeous Tussah Silk Yarn out in the indigo vat. The yarn did so well and the smaller skeins made managing the yarn super easy in the vat. This is what I got with three dips into the vat....
