100 % Eri Silk Yarn

Eri is a wild silk. It comes from a different moth than the more commonly recognized cultivated Mulberry silk. This moth leaves an open door in the cocoon which often causes confusion with Ahimsa silk which comes from cocoons after the mature moth has emerged.

Eri is very soft and quite strong. This yarn size is 30/3 which is equivalent to 20/2. This yarn can be used as warp or weft. Comes in ~100 gram Skeins and ~500 gram Cones.  Wet finish in cool water. Let soak for 20 minutes. Don't agitate. Air dry and press on silk/wool setting with your iron while still damp.

30/3 which compares to 20/2, but stronger because of the extra strand

Weaving Yarn

Eri is a very fluffy, soft, special yarn that does really nicely in cold areas. Like all silk, it keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I dyed a number of skeins using marigolds, madder root, cochineal, and lac. These are all natural dyes and the colors are so beautiful that they make you emotional when you first see the finished product. Here are a couple of scarves I made to try the yarn out...
