I have been perusing various websites, as one does, and I've noticed a few things that I think need clarification.
Cones of yarn, particularly silk, come in various sizes. The most common sizes that I have seen are 100 gr (3.5 oz), 250 gr (8.8 oz), and 500 gr (1.1 lbs). At Golden Warp Yarn Co, all of the natural, undyed silk is on 500 gr (1.1 lbs) cones versus 250 gr cones, which you will find in many other shops. Our colored silk is on 250 gr (8.8 oz) cones versus 100 gr cones. Compare the prices and the amounts of silk that you are getting to better understand the differences in pricing.
We are getting our silk and silk blend yarns directly from the suppliers with no middle person to raise the price. We are able to sell 500 gr cones of silk at the same or similar price that most stores sell 250 gr cones. That's over 1 lb of silk per cone for the price of half of that amount. We are doing everything we can to keep our prices reasonable because silk is one of the most amazing fibers on this planet and all fiber artists should have the option of working with it.
